Easter Round-Up

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

Before Easter, the boys helped knock down the kitchen wall – they loved it!

And our Easter in pictures………

For Easter Sunday breakfast we traditionally draw on our hard boiled eggs – the line-up this year is Sam’s Minecraft character (computer game), my spring flowers, Paul’s scary but brilliantly drawn bird, and Max’s easter bunny:

Max got stuck into his chocolate,

but Sam was far more interested in the crisps he got after having given them up for Lent – 40 days was a VERY long time!

Still in PJs, the boys had a garden egg-hunt,

then Max and I made chocolate nests:

I usually pile these eggs into a basket, but this year I thought I’d do something different, and strung them as a garland.  Pretty!

And last but not least, I found a photo of the card I made for mum’s birthday at the beginning of March, better blogged late than never! :D

Hope you enjoyed your Easter weekend too.

Scrapping Again

Friday, April 6th, 2012

I had just the mojo-kicking day I needed last Saturday, a fab scrappy day out with new scrappy friends – huge thanks to Annette for taking me and introducing me to some lovely people!

I only managed 2.5 pages, not exactly churning them out, LOL, but I loved doing them.  I took Ronda’s book with me for inspiration, just perfect.  A fabulous book, well laid out and great step-by-step instructions for a multitude of techniques and ideas:

Go on, treat yourself, you know you want to ;) . (And no, I’m not on commission, just so pleased for my friend and her success.)

So, I decided to lift a page from the book, and scrapped my 40th birthday, using the gorgeous Cocoa Daisy March kit.

As the journalling says, I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday weekend, I was spoilt rotten and enjoyed every minute.  I love my happy little family in this photo!

And the cake, well somehow mum managed to squeeze 40 candles on – yes, 40 – and the heat was immense, hee hee.  And no, I didn’t manage to blow them all out in one go :D .

I also decided it was high time I scrapped about my other craft obsession of crochet.  I think this was the January kit, I added some bits and bobs from stash, and most importantly some of my own crochet – the flower at top left was one of the first things I made when I taught myself last year, it had to go on the page!

All these granny squares are destined to become a blanket, but I admit I haven’t done much to it lately.  TThere are 60 squares at the moment, I’m not sure yet how many I’ll want in total but I think I need at least 40 more.  Not enough hours in the day!

I was inspired by Ronda again, this time using her technique of journalling in a square.  Tricky to read, sorry! But it tells of how mum gave me some crochet yarn and hooks ages ago, they gathered dust for a while but once I finally got round to giving it a try, I was instantly addicted.  It’s a very satisfying hobby with reasonably quick results.

And the 0.5 of a page?  Still a WIP, of course :D .  Must get onto that…..

Walls Come Tumbling Down

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

Well they do with a bit of encouragement from a lump hammer!

The Big Kitchen Project is finally underway, and we kick off with a few pics of the Wall Removal chapter:

The mess is amazing!  Every item from the kitchen and dining room had to be rehomed somewhere, most of it is in boxes all down the hall.  It’s fun at the moment, I wonder when the novelty will wear off?!?

Birthdays, Birthdays……

Sunday, March 4th, 2012

It’s that time of year again in our house, we go birthday crazy in March!  It’s Max’s turn first, he’ll be 7 on Tuesday, and we had a little party for him today.  We took a couple of his friends to see The Muppets, then had a party lunch at home followed by some noisy boy-type madness :D .  He loved it, and was utterly popped at bedtime!

Max is madly into Guitar Hero on the Wii at the moment, so he opted for a guitar cake.  With a little help from Google, I came up with this:

I was SO pleased with it, and Max declared it was ‘awesome’, THE word of the moment, apparently.

And guess what other monumental occurence happened this weekend?  I did a layout!! Don’t faint……..  I got stuck into the Feb Cocoa Daisy kit, and scrapped a couple of snowy pictures from a few weeks ago:

Pretty happy with that, it felt good and I really hope I’ve kickstarted the old creativity now.

Last but not least, I realised I hadn’t blogged the valentine card I made for Paul – I couldn’t resist adding a touch of my new crochet addiction :D

Thanks for dropping in!

It’s a granny thing

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Back with some more crochet show ‘n’ tell……..  (The papercrafting is well and truly on hold at the moment, I just can’t seem to get in the right zone :-/)

So, I mentioned before that I’d been crocheting granny squares.  A lot of the gorgeous crochet I see around the internet is very brightly coloured, so cheerful and eyecatching, but I’m more of a muted colours girl, so for my granny squares I decided to go with this colour scheme:

granny-squares-2x2.jpg

I have no idea yet if I’ll keep the blanket these squares are destined for, so my colour choices weren’t determined by anything other than that I like them!  The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK, it’s quite ‘hairy’ (it’s a  technical term, you know ;) ) but very soft and snuggly.  I love all my squares and waste spend many a minute sorting and arranging them.  See?

granny-squares.jpg granny-squares-02.jpg granny-squares-03.jpg granny-squares-04.jpg

There are 64 squares so far.  And no two are the same.  I didn’t realise I was going to be this anal, LOL!

I chose a mocha to join them with, these are the first two,

joined-squares.jpg

and I can’t wait to see the whole lot joined together.  I’m already planning the border, just got to get a few more squares done first.  Like, 40 more *sigh*.  Lucky I love it so much :) .
